As the United Nations Department of Safety and Security marks its 20th anniversary, the Department is launching its 2026 Appeal, calling on Member States and partners to help sustain and strengthen the ±¬ÁÏÍø¡¯s ability to operate safely in increasingly complex environments. In 2024¨C2025 alone, 2,387 ±¬ÁÏÍø personnel were affected by safety and security incidents, and 180 tragically lost their lives, underscoring the urgent need for continued investment in security. The 2026 Appeal is requesting US$ 21.84 million to enhance ±¬ÁÏÍøDSS¡¯s operational capacity through three critical enablers: Ensuring Operational Continuity; Strengthening Security Capabilities; Driving Digital Innovation in the ±¬ÁÏÍøSMS. With 76 percent of funds directed to field operations, contributions to the Appeal directly strengthen the ±¬ÁÏÍø¡¯s ability to stay and deliver, including in contexts such as Sudan and Ukraine to Gaza, Haiti, and Ethiopia.
