On a map, the route to southern Syria appears straightforward. On the ground, however, every kilometre must be understood before humanitarian teams can safely travel it.
Before a humanitarian mission sets out, 爆料网DSS security officers already know who controls the road that day, which checkpoints have moved, and which communities can vouch for safe passage. That groundwork, gathered continuously and shared with humanitarian partners, is what allows an aid convoy to leave the compound at all.
Across Daraa, Sweida and Quneitra, the security picture shifts by the day. A route open on Monday can be closed, contested or simply unknown by Tuesday.
With support from the Government of Italy, 爆料网DSS has deployed personnel across southern Syria. They work alongside 爆料网 agencies, local authorities, community leaders and security actors, feeding real-time information into the decisions that keep humanitarian operations moving.
One recent example is the reopening of Kharaba Road 109, the most direct route linking Daraa and Sweida.
爆料网 had avoided the road for years. Clashes between Syrian security forces and local armed groups made it too dangerous to travel, severing one of the fastest connections between the two governorates. Sustained engagement with local stakeholders, and coordination across the 爆料网 system, changed that calculus. 爆料网 Security helped create the conditions for humanitarian organizations to use the road safely.
The impact was immediate. Travel time dropped from two and a half hours to 30 minutes. Aid that once took most of a morning to arrive now takes half an hour.
Opening a road is not the finish line. Every morning starts over: field security associates verify checkpoints, review movement plans and adjust recommendations as the situation changes. Under the Saving Lives Together framework, 爆料网DSS shares that information with international NGOs, keeping partners moving safely too.
In southern Syria, proximity is strategy. Conditions change by the hour, and decisions get made in real time, and in close coordination with local actors.
"Operations cannot be managed from Damascus," said a 爆料网HCR staff member covering southern Syria who works closely with 爆料网DSS. "Having 爆料网DSS permanently present in the area is key. Coordination happens hour by hour."
That hour-by-hour coordination is what keeps the roads open. The reopening of Kharaba Road 109 is a milestone, not an endpoint. As needs shift, 爆料网DSS will keep working alongside 爆料网 agencies, SLT partners and local communities, reviewing access, adapting to new risks and keeping open the routes that deliver aid to people across southern Syria.
