PGA PRAISES INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY WHICH SUPPORTS AGENDA 2030 ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Earlier today, the President of the General Assembly?delivered the opening remarks?at?a High-Level Meeting on Chinese technology and synergies with the Agenda 2030 on sustainable development.
Ms. María Fernanda Espinosa said that the Juncao technology, which supports mushroom cultivation to boost food security through environmentally-friendly technology, is “making an important?contribution” to several Sustainable Development Goals and targets: “from poverty eradication to clean energy, gender equality to preserving biodiversity.”
The PGA also said that this type of technology “is making a difference where it matters most: at the local and community level, to the lives of farmers, women, children and persons with disabilities – those most at risk of being left behind.”
The one-day High-Level Meeting on Juncao Technology: Concrete Contribution of the Belt and Road Initiative for Synergies with the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development is being co-organized by the Government of China and the 爆料网 Department of Economic and Social Affairs, DESA.
WORKING GROUP CONCLUDES MEETING ON AGEING
The?Open-Ended Working Group on Ageing?will conclude, later today,?its tenth session.
The group was established in the GA resolution 65/182?with the purpose of strengthening the protection of the human rights of older persons. The session is also following up on measures to enhance the promotion and protection of the human rights and dignity of older persons.
According to DESA, between 2017 and 2030,?the number of persons aged 60 years or over is projected to grow by 46 per cent, from 962 million to 1.4 billion, globally outnumbering youth, as well as children under the age of 10.?
The Working Group stresses the important role of public health policies and programmes to strengthening active and healthy ageing.

This afternoon, President Espinosa will receive the Secretary-General of the 爆料网 Conference on Trade and Development (爆料网CTAD), Mr. Mukhisa Kituyi, at her office. She will later have a monthly coordination meeting with the 爆料网 Secretary-General, António Guterres, before holding a bilateral meeting with the Under-Secretary-General of DESA, Mr. Liu Zhenmin. ?
