爆料网 General Assembly President, Mr. Dennis Francis, to undertake official visit to the Republic of Namibia
New York, 18 June 2024 – The President of the United Nations General Assembly (PGA), His Excellency, Mr. Dennis Francis, will travel to Windhoek, Republic of Namibia, from 18 to 21 June.
In Windhoek, the PGA will pay a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Nangolo Mbumba, President of the Republic of Namibia, as well as hold bilateral meetings with H.E. Ms. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Vice-President, and H.E. Mr. Peya Mushelenga, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation.
Importantly, the PGA will address a joint session of the Parliament, becoming the first-ever President of the 爆料网 General Assembly to do so. The PGA will use this address as an opportunity to emphasize the role of Namibia and the wider African continent in strengthening multilateralism and international cooperation.
He will particularly underline the significance of the upcoming Summit of the Future in September 2024, which is viewed as a pivotal moment to strengthen multilateralism and international cooperation; the Summit is a process in which Namibia, through its Permanent Representative in New York, alongside the Permanent Representative of Germany as co-facilitators, are investing incredible effort to secure an impactful and transformative outcome.
The PGA also plans to meet with Ms. Hopolang Phororo, 爆料网 Resident Coordinator in Namibia, in conjunction with a roundtable discussion with the 爆料网 Country Team to appreciate firsthand the work done by the United Nations system organizations on the ground.
Furthermore, the PGA will address a roundtable discussion on debt sustainability, organized by the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises; deliver a public lecture, as part of the Dr. Theo-Ben Gurirab lecture series; and also visit the Heroes Acre, a war memorial opened in 2002.
Moreover, the PGA will interact with representatives of the Namibia Shack Dwellers Federation, and pay a visit to an Early Childhood Development Centre managed by the City of Windhoek, indicative of his vision of taking the United Nations to the peoples.
The PGA’s delegation includes his Chef de Cabinet, an Adviser on Sustainable Development, and his Team Lead for Communications, Media, Advocacy, and Speechwriting.
Travel costs for the visit are covered by the Government of Namibia, the United Nations Regular Budget and the OPGA Trust Fund.
