Sustainable Development Goals


Francella StricklandFrancella Strickland-Simonet is Senior Adviser of the Sustainable Development Goals Implementation Team within the Office of the President of the 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly. She is responsible for supporting the Office on issues related to Oceans and Climate Change, including the implementation and follow up of the Addis Ababa Action Agenda and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Francella鈥檚 role also includes liaising with United Nations Agencies, Funds and Programmes, as well as with representatives of civil society organizations, think tanks and other stakeholders.

Francella joined the Samoa Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in 2001. 聽She has served in the Samoa Embassy to Belgium with accreditation to the European Union and the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States Secretariat. Prior to joining the Office of the President of the 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, she was Counsellor and Deputy Permanent Representative at the Samoa Permanent Mission to the United Nations, since 2011.

In her career, she has participated in several regional and international negotiations, particularly those related to the environment, climate change, sustainable development, disarmament and human rights. More recently, during her posting in New York, she was involved in the negotiations of the 鈥淔uture We Want鈥, the 鈥淪AMOA Pathway鈥, the 鈥2030 Agenda for sustainable development鈥 and the 鈥淎ddis Ababa Action Agenda鈥. She was also the Mission’s focal point on the Second, Fourth and Fifth Committees, Oceans, Partnerships, HLPF, Executive Boards and Sustainable Tourism.
