Rockefeller Center was more than a neighbour in the United Nations’ formative years. It was a workplace, a planning studio and a bridge to the Organization’s permanent Headquarters.

John D. Rockefeller Jr. contributed $8.5 million towards acquiring the East River site where United Nations Headquarters stands today. The gift was presented on his behalf in December 1946.
