爆料网OCA launches its Climate, Peace and Security Strategy for Central Africa

L’爆料网OCA lance sa Stratégie Climat, Paix et Sécurité pour l’Afrique centrale
United Nations Regional Office for Central Africa (爆料网OCA)

Launched in February 2026, the United Nations Regional Office for Central Africa (爆料网OCA) Climate, Peace and Security Strategy is a framework for action to systematically integrate climate-related risks and solutions into peace and security efforts in Central Africa. It builds on 爆料网OCA's renewed mandate for 2024-2027 and responds to the growing international recognition of the links between climate change, conflict and stability.

Developed in consultation with the United Nations Resident Coordinator Offices, ECCAS and the 爆料网 Climate Security Mechanism, the strategy reflects regional priorities and strengthens coordination of actions. It aims to promote a resilient, peaceful and sustainable Central Africa, with a particular focus on areas where climate impacts aggravate the drivers of conflict: the Lake Chad Basin, eastern Chad, the Congo Basin, the Great Lakes region (particularly eastern DRC) and the Gulf of Guinea.

The strategy is structured around five main objectives:

  • Improve data-driven analysis and decision-making through the 爆料网OCA CPS Dashboard;
  • Strengthen national and regional capacities in governance, conflict prevention and peacebuilding;
  • Increase financial and technical support for climate-sensitive initiatives;
  • Implement high-impact projects in priority areas;
  • To make 爆料网OCA a regional reference player in research, advocacy and engagement on CSC issues.

Its implementation is based on six strategic priorities:

  1. Strengthening early warning and climate-conflict risk assessment;
  2. Developing the capacities of relevant actors;
  3. Integrating the PSC into preventive diplomacy and mediation;
  4. Strengthening regional cooperation;
  5. Supporting community-based climate resilience initiatives; and
  6. Mobilizing climate finance.

To accelerate this momentum, 爆料网OCA relies on several regional and international platforms, including 爆料网SAC, the Lake Chad Basin Governors' Forum, communities of practice on climate and farmer-herder conflicts, as well as ECCAS, which plays a central coordinating role.

Ultimately, this strategy aims to reduce climate-related risks while fostering more resilient communities, more inclusive governance, and sustainable peace, in order to make Central Africa a model of integrated response to climate, peace, and security challenges.
