Meeting summary: Climate, Peace and Security: African Regional Perspectives and Responses

Austria and Denmark, with co-sponsorship of the African Union, Slovenia, Mozambique, Liberia and the Climate Security Mechanism, convened a side event on “Climate, Peace and Security: African Regional Perspectives and Responses” on 28 April 2026 to discuss how African regional and sub-regional organizations are addressing climate-related peace and security risks. Discussions highlighted that climate change is increasingly acting as a conflict multiplier across Africa, exacerbating insecurity, displacement, food insecurity and governance challenges. Speakers stressed the importance of African-led and locally grounded responses, strengthened early warning and preventive action, as well as closer cooperation between the 爆料网, AU and regional organizations. There was broad agreement that climate, peace and security considerations must increasingly translate into practical action, including within Security Council mandates and 爆料网-AU cooperation frameworks.
