The\u00a0Israeli Government\u2019s decision to publish construction tenders for the E1 settlement project is unacceptable. The international community has long opposed this settlement expansion, and\u00a0has voiced their grave concerns\u00a0privately and publicly.\u00a0The E1 settlement\u00a0will\u00a0undermine\u00a0the\u00a0prospect\u00a0of the\u00a0two-state solution\u00a0by driving a wedge through the West Bank\u00a0and harming the territorial contiguity of the Palestinian Territories.<\/p>\n
International law is clear that Israeli settlements in the West Bank are illegal. This is the position of the international community reaffirmed by the United Nations Security Council.<\/p>\n
At a time of grave instability in the West Bank\u00a0with unprecedented\u00a0levels of violence\u00a0by settlers\u00a0against civilians, and serious restrictions on the Palestinian economy, this decision is even more\u00a0concerning.<\/p>\n
We urge the Government of Israel to retract these plans\u00a0immediately and end its expansion of settlements in the West Bank. Not only will they take us further from peace, but they further undermine Israel\u2019s international standing.<\/p>\n
Businesses\u00a0should not\u00a0consider\u00a0bidding for construction tenders.\u00a0They should be aware of\u00a0legal and reputational\u00a0consequences\u00a0including the risk of involving themselves in serious breaches of international law.<\/p>\n
