1. ±¬ÁÏÍø Palestinian Rights Committee warns in Gaza the humanitarian catastrophe continues<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

\u00a0<\/span>On 28 April, the Vice-Chair of the ±¬ÁÏÍø Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP), Ambassador Umar Hadi, delivered a statement at the Security Council quarterly open debate on the situation in the Middle East, including the question of Palestine. He warned about the continuing\u202fhumanitarian catastrophe\u202fin Gaza, and the deeper fragmentation of the Occupied Palestinian Territory and the dispossession of the Palestinian people as Israel entrenches its illegal occupation. Ambassador Hadi\u202fcondemned the\u202fcontinuing\u202fsettler violence in the West Bank and\u202fthe\u202fIsraeli measures\u202faimed at changing the demographic, religious, and cultural\u202fcharacter of East Jerusalem. He called on the Security Council to protect civilians, reject annexation, demographic engineering and collective punishment, and uphold the unity of the Occupied Palestinian Territory with Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and for the\u202ffull implementation of the <\/span>New York Declaration<\/a><\/em>\u00a0<\/em>to advance toward a<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>just and comprehensive solution to the Palestine question.\u00a0<\/em><\/span>Read the complete statement here<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

2. ±¬ÁÏÍø Palestinian Rights Committee commemorates the 78<\/span><\/b>th<\/span><\/b>\u00a0anniversary of the Nakba<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

On 15 May, the United Nations Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People\u00a0convened\u00a0a meeting at ±¬ÁÏÍø Headquarters in New York to commemorate the 78th anniversary of the\u202f<\/em><\/span>Nakba<\/a><\/em>.<\/em>\u00a0Participants acknowledged that the Nakba is\u00a0an ongoing reality for Palestinians\u00a0and\u00a0a\u00a0question of memory as much as of justice and international responsibility.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0statement delivered on behalf of President Mahmoud Abbas<\/em><\/a>[1]<\/a>\u00a0affirmed that \u201cWe will not leave and we will not forget,\u201d and stressed that the Palestinian people\u2019s rights to self-determination, independence, return, and sovereignty cannot be erased.\u00a0In his\u00a0<\/span>statement<\/a><\/em>,<\/em> the Committee Chair described the Nakba as \u201cthe catastrophe of dispossession, exile and loss,\u201d and as \u201cnot a chapter closed in 1948,\u201d but \u201ca continuing catastrophe\u201d visible in refugee camps, checkpoints, demolished homes, uprooted olive trees, and in Gaza, \u201cwhere entire neighbourhoods have been reduced to dust.\u201d The President of the General Assembly <\/span>called\u00a0on\u00a0<\/a><\/em>the\u00a0international community together with all parties\u00a0to\u00a0\u201cwork to end the illegal occupation, create a credible and irreversible pathway to achieve the\u00a0two-State\u00a0solution\u201d.\u00a0The ±¬ÁÏÍø Assistant Secretary-General\u00a0for the Middle East\u00a0<\/span>stressed<\/a><\/em>\u00a0that remembering\u00a0the Nakba imposes responsibilities to act,\u00a0including\u00a0\u201cending unlawful practices, protecting civilians, supporting Palestinian governance and\u00a0institution<\/span>\u2011building, and reviving a credible political process toward a negotiated two<\/span>\u2011State\u00a0solution\u201d.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The commemoration featured\u00a0video\u00a0testimonies from Palestinians whose lives reflect the enduring human cost of the Nakba and its present-day manifestations.\u00a0Among the testimonies, the mother of Hind Rajab, the five-year-old Palestinian girl killed in Gaza in 2024, asked the world not to forget Gaza\u2019s children,\u00a0who\u00a0\u201cdeserve life, education, and they deserve a far better life than this.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

31\u00a0Member States and\u00a0organisations\u00a0delivered remarks.\u00a0Representatives\u00a0reiterated support for a two-State solution based on the pre-1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as the capital of the State of\u00a0Palestine and\u00a0called for Palestine\u2019s full membership in the United Nations.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As part of the commemoration, the Committee co-organised\u00a0with the Permanent Observer Mission of the State of Palestine the screening of the film\u00a0\u201cAll that\u2019s left of you\u201d,\u00a0on 13 May. The event saw\u00a0a\u00a0broad participation by the United Nations diplomatic community, United Nations personnel, and civil society\u00a0representatives.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

3. A Committee delegation holds consultations with European civil society in Brussels<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n

On 6 May, the Committee held\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>1st\u00a02026\u00a0CEIRPP-CSO Consultations in Brussels<\/a><\/em>. The meeting with European civil society organizations focused on strengthening dialogue with groups working on the question of Palestine and to identify concrete ways to advance international law and the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people. The Chair of the Committee emphasized that Europe\u2019s role remains central, given its political, legal, humanitarian, and economic leverage, alongside the need to translate commitments into concrete action. <\/span><\/p>\n

Participants recommended <\/span>inter alia<\/span><\/i>: the suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement; adoption of a comprehensive ban on trade with illegal Israeli settlements, full small arms embargo, and targeted sanctions against individuals and entities responsible for serious violations of international law; full cooperation with the International Criminal Court; support for Palestinian ownership in all diplomatic and reconstruction processes; countering disinformation, and translation of solidarity into concrete political, legal, economic and diplomatic consequences for violations of international law. <\/span>More details available here<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

4. A Committee delegation visits Belgium, France and Spain<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In the margins of the 1<\/span>st<\/span> 2026 CEIRPP-CSO Consultations in Brussels, the Committee Delegation held bilateral meetings with governments and parliamentarians in Brussels, Madrid and Paris.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On 4 May,\u00a0in Paris\u00a0the Committee Delegation met with\u00a0representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Assembly. The Delegation highlighted the role of parliamentary diplomacy in defining policy tools in support of the Palestinian people, and parliamentary scrutiny of arms exports. It expressed appreciation for France\u2019s leadership on the Question of Palestine, including in\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>2025 Conference on the Two-State Solution<\/a><\/em>\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0on\u00a0the \u201c<\/span>New York Declaration<\/a><\/em>\u201d, and welcomed France\u2019s recognition of the State of Palestine.\u00a0<\/span>More details are available here<\/a><\/em>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Committee delegation visited the Headquarters of the European Union (EU) in Brussels, Belgium, on 5 May and met officials of the EU External Action Services, including of the Cabinet of the High Representative\/Vice-President of the European Commission, and Members of the EU Parliament. The Delegation stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation and advancing efforts toward a just and lasting solution to the question of Palestine, including maintaining momentum from the\u00a0<\/span>2025<\/em> Conference on the Two-State Solution<\/em><\/span>\u00a0and the\u00a0\u201c<\/span>New York Declaration<\/em>\u201d<\/span>; and encouraged donors\u2019\u00a0assistance\u00a0for humanitarian relief in Gaza.\u00a0On 7 May, the delegation held a meeting with ambassadors of EU Member States serving on\u00a0the\u00a0European\u00a0Union\u2019s\u00a0Political and Security Committee (PSC).\u00a0<\/span>More details are available here<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On 7 May, the Committee delegation held meetings at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belgium, during which it commended Belgium\u2019s consistent support for ±¬ÁÏÍøRWA, welcomed its support for the\u00a0<\/span>International Court of Justice<\/a><\/em>\u2019s advisory opinions on the question of Palestine and domestic judicial processes addressing alleged war crimes. Belgium\u2019s stated intention to\u00a0recognise\u00a0the State of Palestine was noted.\u00a0<\/span>More details are available here<\/em>.<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On 8 May,\u00a0in\u00a0<\/span>Madrid<\/a><\/em>,<\/em>\u00a0the Committee Delegation\u00a0held a meeting at the Ministry\u00a0of Foreign Affairs to discuss how to keep the momentum from the 2025 Two-State Solution Conference and its New York Declaration \u2013 both within the European Union and the wider international arena \u2013 against the backdrop of competing geopolitical issues.\u00a0In the\u00a0meeting\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0Spanish Parliament,\u00a0the focus was on\u00a0detailed efforts to increase support for the Palestinian people and the State of Palestine, including through the strengthening of Spanish laws to prohibit the import of Israeli goods originating in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and the shipment of military cargo to and from Israel.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>At the\u00a0Spanish Agency for International Cooperation (AECID), the discussion focused on the current humanitarian situation in Gaza and efforts to provide continued support to the Palestinian government in Ramallah, including\u00a0within\u00a0the wider ±¬ÁÏÍø framework.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

5. The ±¬ÁÏÍø Palestinian Rights Committee Bureau condemns the order implement the eviction of Khan al-Ahmar community\u202fin the occupied West Bank<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

On 4 June, the Committee Bureau condemned the order signed by the Minister of Finance of Israel, Bezalel Smotrich, instructing the Israeli Civil Administration to begin proceeding with the eviction of the Palestinian community of Khan al-Ahmar in the so-called \u201cE1 area\u201d in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. The Committee Bureau stressed that the forced transfer of the civilian population amounts to a war crime\u00a0under international law, and that territorial unity,\u00a0contiguity\u00a0and integrity of\u00a0all of\u00a0the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, must be respected and preserved. It urged Israel to\u00a0immediately\u202fcease\u202fall\u202fillegal\u202fsettlement activities\u202fin the\u202foccupied\u202fWest Bank, including East Jerusalem,\u202fand\u202fto halt\u202fall acts\u202fof violence against\u202fPalestinians.\u00a0<\/span>The press release is available here.<\/a><\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

6. A\u00a0Committee\u00a0delegation\u00a0visits Asmara, Eritrea\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\u00a0<\/span>From 8 to 9 June, a Committee Delegation visited Asmara, Eritrea, to discuss the Question of Palestine.<\/span><\/p>\n

7. ±¬ÁÏÍø Palestinian Rights Committee holds a meeting on 24 June to discuss recent activities\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

On 24 June, the ±¬ÁÏÍø Palestinian Rights Committee held its 429th Meeting to discuss its recent and upcoming activities, the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, and approved Chile\u2019s request for observer status. The Committee also received a briefing from the Representative Office of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (±¬ÁÏÍøRWA) in New York on the financial and operational situation of the Agency. <\/span><\/p>\n

Committee Members and Observers expressed support for ±¬ÁÏÍøRWA\u2019s mandate and for the annual ±¬ÁÏÍøRWA Pledging Conference on 30 June. They recalled the importance of the two-State solution as the basis for long-lasting peace in the Middle East.\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
