1. ±¬ÁÏÍø Palestinian Rights Committee warns peace cannot coexist with annexation and oppression, Security Council debate <\/strong><\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

On 28 January, the Vice-Chair of the ±¬ÁÏÍø Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP), Ambassador Jaime Hermida Castillo, warned that lasting peace cannot be achieved while annexation, occupation, and humanitarian restrictions persist. As the Security Council quarterly open debate coincided with the International Day of Peaceful Coexistence<\/a>, Ambassador Castillo stressed that \u201cpeace cannot coexist with annexation and oppression. Humanitarian access cannot coexist with obstruction. And coexistence itself cannot survive without justice and accountability.\u201d He also highlighted the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza and called for the protection of civilians, unhindered humanitarian access and respect for international law. The statement reiterated support for a negotiated two-State solution and renewed international efforts to secure the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and a just peace. 2. The Committee elects new Bureau and adopts 2026 Program of Work, Chile joins the Committee<\/strong><\/h2>\n

On 3 February 2026, the Committee convened its 426th meeting and adopted its programme of work<\/a> for 2026. ±¬ÁÏÍø Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres presided over the election of the Bureau. Ambassador Coly Seck (Senegal) was re-elected as Chair of the Committee. Ernesto Sober\u00f3n Guzm\u00e1n (Cuba), Umar Hadi (Indonesia), Ahmad Faisal Muhamad (Malaysia), Pendapala Naanda (Namibia) and Jaime Hermida Castillo (Nicaragua) were elected as Vice-Chairs.<\/p>\n

The Committee approved Chile\u2019s request<\/a> to join the Committee. Chile\u2019s representative said that the country hosts \u201cthe largest Palestinian diaspora outside the Arab world\u201d, with tens of thousands of Chileans of Palestinian descent who are fully integrated into Chile\u2019s cultural and social life.<\/p>\n

3. Committee Delegation visits Havana, Cuba<\/strong><\/h2>\n

From 11 to 14 February 2026, a Committee delegation visited Havana, Cuba, to discuss regional and international political actions in support of the rights of the Palestinian people. During the visit, the delegation met with President Miguel D\u00edaz-Canel Berm\u00fadez and Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Bruno Rodr\u00edguez Parrilla, with Deputy Foreign Minister H.E. Anayansi Rodr\u00edguez Camejo, the President and Members of the National Assembly, Palestinian students in Cuba, and representatives of civil society. Cuban counterparts reaffirmed their continued support for a solution to the question of Palestine based on international law and relevant United Nations resolutions. 4. ±¬ÁÏÍø Palestinian Rights Committee Bureau Condemns Israeli Actions Undermining Palestinian Land Rights in the Occupied West Bank<\/strong><\/h2>\n

On 18 February 2026, the Committee Bureau condemned Israeli measures that undermine Palestinian land rights in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem. The Committee warned that such actions could deepen annexation and displacement, calling on Israel to halt these policies and comply with international law. It also urged the international community to take steps to protect Palestinian rights and support a just and lasting peace in accordance with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions. 5. Committee meeting on the margins of the 70th Session on the Commission on the Status of Women<\/strong><\/h2>\n

On 18 March, the Committee held its 427th meeting, in the margins of the 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) under the theme \u201cDiscriminatory Laws and Policies against Palestinian Women and Girls under Israeli Occupation: Justice Demands Accountability\u201d.<\/p>\n

The meeting featured remarks by Minister of Women Affairs of Palestine\u00a0H.E. Mona Al-Khalil and expert briefings by Palestinian women from Gaza, the West Bank, Israel and the United States on the gendered impact of Israel\u2019s War on Gaza; reparations and restitutions for displaced women in the West Bank; and the integration of gender into the implementation of GA res. ES-10\/24<\/a>. Briefers proposed concrete measures including ensuring women\u2019s freedom of movement, establishing gender-sensitive monitoring mechanisms, protecting their housing and legal rights and promoting their economic integration in reconstruction efforts.<\/p>\n
