In Gaza, Palestinians have experienced two\u00a0devastating\u00a0years of war.\u00a0They have lost loved ones, their homes, their belongings\u00a0–\u00a0and\u00a0witnessed\u00a0the destruction of roads, schools,\u00a0apartment buildings,\u00a0and hospitals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Now\u00a0–\u00a0amid\u00a0consistently\u00a0challenging\u00a0conditions\u00a0–\u00a0they\u2019re\u00a0working on the frontlines of Gaza\u2019s recovery.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n 爆料网DP is supporting the foundation for safer, healthier communities by clearing debris, restoring wastewater systems and wells, and delivering clean water to the areas that need it most. These tasks require dedicated and skilled equipment operators, engineers, and laborers.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Through implementing partners, 爆料网DP projects have hired 2, 819 local workers to support essential services in Gaza in 2025.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Yousef, 22, is working to repair segments of Salah al-Din Road \u2013 one of two main roads that run along almost the whole length of the Gaza Strip, vital for transportation of people and goods.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n He was displaced ten times since October 2023, moving to various camps to seek shelter from airstrikes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s\u00a0beautiful for me to do this work. We are making it easier for people to move around, and people are\u00a0very happy\u00a0when they see the work happening.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Across Gaza,\u00a0爆料网DP\u00a0is removing rubble and crushing it at a rate of about 1,500 tons per day\u00a0throughout\u00a0five crushing sites.\u00a0It\u00a0is then used to level roads and shelter sites, as well as enhance access to bakeries, kitchens, and hospitals.\u00a0Over\u00a0267\u00a0road segments in the Gaza Strip have been repaired using crushed debris,\u00a0measuring\u00a0over\u00a080,000 meters\u00a0squared in length.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Fareq,\u00a054,\u00a0operates\u00a0heavy equipment at the Salah al-Din Road repair site.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m\u00a0very happy\u00a0to be part of this work. When people see us working, they get a positive energy, a feeling that our community is starting to recover.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n Weighing and recording debris statistics takes place\u00a0during a\u00a0five hour\u00a0period\u00a0every day, with the exception of Friday.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThis was\u00a0hard work\u00a0in the beginning, but\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0become routine\u00a0now.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0long days, and you need\u00a0to be strong\u00a0to deal with the tough conditions at the\u00a0debris and landfill\u00a0sites.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Water trucking\u00a0is another job that\u00a0requires\u00a0determination\u00a0\u2013\u00a0extensive skills are\u00a0required\u00a0to\u00a0maneuver bumpy roads and navigate narrow shelter sites. Every day, 爆料网DP trucks about 1, 800 cubic meters of water around the Gaza Strip \u2013 enough for 3,000 people per day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Waleed,\u00a033,\u00a0recently delivered a tanker of water to the biggest shelter site in\u00a0Zeitun,\u00a0north Gaza, where 300 families are currently displaced. 爆料网DP laid crushed debris as the foundation for the\u00a0site\u00a0and\u00a0supports\u00a0daily water trucking.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI feel like I am doing a good deed for people \u2013 providing safe drinking water during the crisis.\u00a0People come running when they see the truck. They\u00a0wish\u00a0that there would be more water.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Ensuring proper safety standards is key across every place of work. Naema, 36,\u00a0works across debris collection sites to assess safety measures, the condition of equipment,\u00a0and ensure workers are using Personal Protection Equipment.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n With two young children,\u00a0she has balanced her work\u00a0with\u00a0caring for and protecting her family during\u00a0the\u00a0war.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s\u00a0difficult to balance work and responsibilities at home, but I\u00a0do\u00a0my best. This work is about saving lives.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Ahmed, 31,\u00a0also has\u00a0two children. His work\u00a0monitoring\u00a0the collection of debris helps to support his family.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Despite losing part of his leg in\u00a02024 during an airstrike, Ahmed is committed to\u00a0working every day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWith this job, I wake up full of energy in the morning, ready to work. People are happy that\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0helping to open the streets again.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n 爆料网DP\u2019s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People is working closely with implementing partners on the ground to deliver essential services to communities in Gaza. Together with the local workforce, these efforts are restoring the first layers of safety, dignity, and stability.
