Pursuant to General Assembly resolution 76\/262<\/a><\/em>, I hereby submit a special report on the use of the veto at the 9929th meeting of the Security Council, held on 4\u00a0June 2025 in connection with the item entitled \u201cThe situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question\u201d (see annex).<\/p>\n

Special report of the Security Council<\/strong><\/p>\n

The present special report of the Security Council is submitted in response to the invitation made by the General Assembly in paragraph 3 of its resolution 76\/262<\/a><\/em> and in accordance with Article 24 (3) of the Charter of the United Nations.<\/p>\n

On 4 June 2025, the Security Council held its 9929th meeting, to take action, inter alia, on a draft resolution contained in document S\/2025\/353<\/a><\/em>, which had been submitted by Algeria, Denmark, Greece, Guyana, Pakistan, Panama, the Republic of Korea, Sierra Leone, Slovenia and Somalia. The meeting was held in connection with the item entitled \u201cThe situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question\u201d.<\/p>\n

The result of the voting on the draft resolution was as follows:<\/p>\n

Algeria, China, Denmark, France, Greece, Guyana, Pakistan, Panama, Republic of Korea, Russian Federation, Sierra Leone, Slovenia, Somalia, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Against: <\/em><\/p>\n

United States of America.<\/p>\n

In accordance with Article 27 (3) of the Charter, the draft resolution obtained the required number of votes but was rejected because a permanent member of the Security Council voted against its adoption.<\/p>\n
