On June 2, Foreign Minister Ine Eriksen S\u00f8reide heads a meeting of the donor country group for Palestine (AHLC).\u00a0The EU’s High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Josep Borrell is co-host.\u00a0The video meeting includes, among others, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh and foreign ministers from several central donor countries.\u00a0The meeting was supposed to have taken place in Brussels on April 1, but it was canceled because of the coronary pandemic.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

– We want to use this meeting to discuss measures to strengthen the Palestinian economy and the alignment of the donor efforts of the Palestinians in the future, in light of the significant challenges facing the Palestinian Authority in the wake of the covid 19 pandemic and the demanding political situation of says Foreign Minister Eriksen S\u00f8reide.<\/p>\n

The goal of the donor country group is to provide an institutional and financial basis for a negotiated two-state solution.\u00a0It is projected that the Palestinian authorities could face a significant budget deficit this year, even with significant re-prioritization as a result of the corona crisis.<\/p>\n

– Norway recently transferred the planned budget support of NOK 100 million to the World Bank’s Multidisciplinary Fund for Palestine.\u00a0At the meeting, I would urge other countries to increase the support of the Palestinian Authority, says the Foreign Minister.<\/p>\n

The donor group for Palestine was established in 1993 after the first Oslo agreement.\u00a0This is the only international forum where both parties to the conflict participate in political dialogue with donors and the international community on the two-state solution and Palestinian state-building.<\/p>\n
