GENERAL ASSEMBLY PRESIDENT SAYS PALESTINE NATIONAL CO±¬ÁÏÍøCIL MEETING HAS PROVIDED GREATER OPPORT±¬ÁÏÍøITY FOR MIDDLE EAST PEACE<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

The following statement was issued today by the spokesman for the President of the General Assembly, Dante H. Caputo (Argentina):<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Today there is a greater opportunity than ever before to achieve a just and lasting peace in a war-torn region.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

Security Council resolutions 242 and 338 provide the necessary instructions for attaining a solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict, maintaining as a fundamental premise the rights of the Palestinian people to determine their own destiny.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

The results of the recent meeting of the Palestine National Council should serve as a point of departure for the quest for the ideals of harmony and brotherhood to which the Palestinian people are entitled.<\/p><\/div>\n
