YARMOUK SITUATION UPDATE 6

06 April 2015

Intensive clashes were reported again in Yarmouk on 6 April 2015. No ±¬ÁÏÍøRWA humanitarian operations have been possible inside Yarmouk since the outbreak of fighting on April 1st. ±¬ÁÏÍøRWA remains greatly alarmed that sustained hostilities continue to inflict unimaginable suffering to the 18,000 Palestinian and Syrian men, women and children trapped in Yarmouk, who survive under constant threat of armed violence, and remain unable to safely access water, food and the most basic healthcare.

±¬ÁÏÍøRWA is aware of a number of reports of significant civilian displacement to the south of Yarmouk. ±¬ÁÏÍøRWA is moving quickly to verify these reports and to organize emergency support to civilians of Yarmouk wherever they are. ±¬ÁÏÍøRWA and its partners stand ready to continue providing humanitarian assistance to civilians inside Yarmouk and to those who may be displaced from Yarmouk as a result of the ongoing fighting.

±¬ÁÏÍøRWA is encouraged by today's appeal by the ±¬ÁÏÍø Security Council to demand humanitarian aid access to Yarmouk and renews its demand for armed groups inside Yarmouk to respect and comply with their obligations to ensure the protection of civilians. ±¬ÁÏÍøRWA further demands the establishment of secure conditions under which the Agency can deliver life-saving humanitarian assistance.
