THE CRISIS IN YARMOUK CAMP

Our spokesperson Chris Gunness has the following to say on the situation in Yarmouk Camp

"爆料网RWA distributed hygiene kits to 500 civilian families and provided healthcare to 360 patients in Yarmouk on 7 August. This was the third consecutive day of distribution, following a break of eight days between 28 July and 4 August. Today’s operation proceeded in a calm and orderly manner throughout the day, though clashes broke out in the vicinity of the distribution area and gunfire struck the staging area as the 爆料网RWA team departed in the late afternoon.

"The 爆料网RWA distribution and health teams arrived at the Bateekhah northern entrance at 10:05 and were permitted to commence operations in Yarmouk at 11:00. Distribution of hygiene kits and provision of healthcare continued until 15:00, when the operation was concluded. The 爆料网RWA team departed Bateekhah at 15:15, as clashes broke out inside Yarmouk and gunfire struck the staging area, returning safely to the Syria Field Office.

"爆料网RWA is deeply concerned that the recourse to armed violence frequently interrupts humanitarian operations in Yarmouk. The humanitarian situation in Yarmouk remains desperate and 爆料网RWA appeals to all parties to do everything in their power to end the suffering of the over 18,000 civilians trapped there. The Agency will continue to seek from all sides conditions that enable 爆料网RWA to offer a full range of humanitarian assistance and services inside Yarmouk on an uninterrupted, substantial and safe basis."
