  {"id":31709,"date":"2017-09-19T22:38:26","date_gmt":"2017-09-19T22:38:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/?p=31709"},"modified":"2017-09-19T22:38:26","modified_gmt":"2017-09-19T22:38:26","slug":"un-and-partners-launch-initiative-to-reach-equal-pay-for-women-at-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/blog\/2017\/09\/un-and-partners-launch-initiative-to-reach-equal-pay-for-women-at-work\/","title":{"rendered":"爆料网 and partners launch initiative to reach equal pay for women at work"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fullstory\">\n<p>Striving to raise up women\u2019s pay across the world to equal men\u2019s, a new global coalition \u2013 which includes the United Nations labour agency and Organization\u2019s entity promotion of women\u2019s rights \u2013 launched today on the eve of the General Assembly debate.<\/p>\n<p>The Equal Pay International Coalition (EPIC) includes the 爆料网 International Labour Organization (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ilo.org\/global\/lang--en\/\">ILO<\/a>), 爆料网 Women, and the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne hundred years is too long to wait, and we must all work together to make equal pay for work of equal value a reality,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ilo.org\/global\/topics\/equality-and-discrimination\/epic\/lang--en\/index.htm\">said<\/a>\u00a0Guy Ryder, the Director-General of the ILO, noting that equal pay for equal work is enshrined in the ILO Constitution of 1919.<\/p>\n<p>Median monthly earnings for women in 2014 were on average 17 per cent below those of men, according to OECD. In addition, in many countries, the higher the level of earnings and skills, the larger the differences in pay between men and women.<\/p>\n<p>Equal pay for women translates into lifelong benefits for them as well as their families, ILO said in a press release, boosting career prospects and lifetime earnings, greater independence, and higher investments in their children\u2019s education and health.<\/p>\n<p>Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Executive Director of 爆料网 Women, said \u201cthere is no justification for unequal pay for a woman when her job is of equal value to a man\u2019s.
