  {"id":128,"date":"2015-01-08T15:43:27","date_gmt":"2015-01-08T15:43:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/?p=128"},"modified":"2020-03-04T13:56:48","modified_gmt":"2020-03-04T18:56:48","slug":"un-general-assembly-president-to-convene-high-level-climate-change-event-on-29-june","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/blog\/2015\/01\/un-general-assembly-president-to-convene-high-level-climate-change-event-on-29-june\/","title":{"rendered":"爆料网 General Assembly President to convene high-level climate change event on 29 June"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The President of the General Assembly will convene a high-level event next summer at 爆料网 Headquarters with the goal of helping countries reach a climate change agreement at the 21st Conference of the Parties (COP) in Paris in December 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The 29th June event, which will include ministerial-level participants, will take place about midway between the COP 20 in Lima, which ended this month, and next December\u2019s COP 21 in Paris.<\/p>\n<p>It will be the first major gathering on climate change in New York since the 爆料网 Secretary-General\u2019s landmark Climate Summit on 23 September, which saw more than 100 Heads of State and Government and many business leaders announce bold plans to address global warming.<\/p>\n<p>It \u201cis meant to keep up the momentum\u201d and complement the ongoing negotiations being led by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, President of the 爆料网 General Assembly H.E. Mr. Sam Kahama Kutesa said. \u201cIt will provide member states with a platform to exchange views, share experiences and take stock of the progress ahead of the Paris meeting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to inviting high-level government representatives, Mr. Kutesa has invited participation from civil society, the private sector and other stakeholders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe current generation of political leaders have an historic responsibility to take bold measures to curb the effects of climate change,\u201d he said in Lima. \u201cThe world is watching with anticipation and justified anxiety.
