Expected to be one of the largest international gatherings in Ethiopia\u2019s capital in years, the 17th<\/sup> Internet Governance Forum<\/strong> from 28 November to 2 December<\/strong> will gather more than 2,000 delegates to set out concrete steps for leveraging the power of the Internet while addressing risks and challenges.<\/p>\n

Convened by the ±¬ÁÏÍø Secretary-General, the 17th<\/sup> meeting of the IGF comes at a crucial time when the benefits that the Internet offers\u2014access to telemedicine, digital banking and e-learning\u2014are elusive to approximately 2.7 billion people. The misuse of the Internet has also led to a spike in misinformation, disinformation and cybercrimes.<\/p>\n

From addressing Internet shutdowns to bridging the digital divide and safeguarding human rights, the Forum, under the theme Resilient Internet for a Shared Sustainable and Common Future,<\/strong> will bring together all segments of society \u2014 from governments and businesses to civil society and youth \u2014 to share best practices and experiences that will help shape national and global policies on the Internet.<\/p>\n

The outcomes of this year\u2019s IGF will serve as important inputs to the Global Digital Compact<\/a> that will be agreed on at the ±¬ÁÏÍø Summit of the Future in 2024.<\/p>\n

In addition to the opening and closing ceremonies, a\u00a0Parliamentary Track<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0a Youth Global Summit<\/a>, there will also be three High-level sessions<\/a> on universal, affordable and meaningful connectivity (28 November); Digital Rights (28 November); and Digital Trust and Security (29 November).<\/p>\n
