The Secretary-General’s Scientific Advisory Board Meeting in Turin

On 25–26 June, the Secretary-General’s Scientific Advisory Board and its network institutions gathered in Turin, hosted by Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, for a two-day meeting focused on the Board's ongoing work and future priorities.
The meeting also served as an opportunity to formally welcome five recently appointed Board members: Anima Anandkumar, Daron Acemoglu, Abdoulaye Djimdé, Iris Bohnet, and Charles Spillane.
In a world where trust in institutions is challenged and the pace of technological change risks outpacing governance, the Board examined what it means for science to remain a credible, inclusive, and consequential force in policymaking.
But the conversations didn’t stop at the meeting table. A public session brought the debate to a wider audience, centering on urgent questions around science, trust, and emerging technologies:
How can science foster trust, dialogue, and cooperation in a fragmented world?
How do we harness the promise of AI-biotechnology convergence while managing its risks?
The Board also discussed the road ahead: strengthening the impact of its science advice, amplifying the voices of youth and Global South communities, and shaping priorities for future Science Briefs.
After two days of rich exchange, one message stood out: global challenges demand global, evidence-informed solutions. Science remains one of humanity's most powerful tools for building trust, fostering cooperation, and shaping a more resilient future.
