As part of the Scientific Advisory Board annual retreat, the Permanent Missions of Singapore and South Africa co-hosted a panel discussion and reception.

The panel, entitled “Shaping a Strong Multilateral Future: Combatting Misinformation through Science and Technology,” examined how misinformation and disinformation, amplified by artificial intelligence, undermine trust in science and democratic institutions. Panelists considered a range of responses, including strengthening digital literacy, fostering inclusive AI governance, advancing open science, improving science communication, and reinforcing systems of scientific validation. The discussion emphasized that science continues to serve as a unifying force and as a foundation for informed decision-making and effective multilateralism.

The evening reception brought together Member States, Board members, and network institutions to deepen scientific and diplomatic connections and to strengthen evidence-based multilateral policymaking.
