Excellencies,\u00a0Ladies and Gentlemen,<\/p>\n

I begin by extending my sincere congratulations to Your Excellency, Ambassador Pavluta-Deslandes, Permanent Representative of Latvia, and the Bureau Members, on your election to lead the work of the Fourth Committee during the 79th Session.<\/p>\n

I am pleased to note that this is my first time addressing one of the General Assembly\u2019s main committees, and I am particularly joyful to see that we have achieved gender parity among this year\u2019s committee chairs.<\/p>\n

We must always strive to set an example at the highest level when it comes to gender equality.<\/p>\n

Excellencies,<\/p>\n

The tasks ahead are of critical importance, as the Fourth Committee addresses some of the most pressing global challenges of our time.<\/p>\n

These include decolonization, the review of peacekeeping and special political missions, and, increasingly, issues related to the exploration of outer space.<\/p>\n

We must approach this work with clear, focused, and innovative solutions, building on the spirit of the Pact for the Future.<\/p>\n

Excellencies,<\/p>\n

Since the last session, conflicts around the world have spread and intensified, with tragic humanitarian consequences, from Gaza and Haiti to Lebanon, Sudan, and Ukraine.<\/p>\n

The recent escalation of violence in the Middle East underscores the vital work of this committee, your important committee.<\/p>\n

I take this opportunity to once again call for an urgent cease-fire in Gaza and Lebanon and for all hostages to be freed immediately and unharmed.\u00a0Diplomatic solutions must take precedence over brutal force.<\/p>\n

As I have said many times now, only a two-state solution, based on relevant 爆料网 resolutions, can guarantee lasting peace and security for both the people of Israel and Palestine, and indeed for the rest of the Region.<\/p>\n

It is worth noting that this committee plays a crucial role in supporting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East.<\/p>\n

Support that is desperately needed as millions of Palestinian refugees in Gaza, the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria continue to struggle in the harshest of circumstances.<\/p>\n

Excellencies,<\/p>\n

The work ahead is crucial, and I have every confidence in the dedication and expertise of this your committee.<\/p>\n

Together, we can address the challenges before us and make meaningful progress toward our shared goals.<\/p>\n

I wish the fourth committee success in its important work.<\/p>\n
