±¬ÁÏÍø General Assembly President, Mr. Dennis Francis, to undertake official visit to Juba, in the Republic of South Sudan<\/strong><\/p>\n

New York, 11 June 2024 <\/strong><\/em>\u2013 The President of the United Nations General Assembly (PGA), His Excellency Mr. Dennis Francis, will travel to Juba, the Republic of South Sudan, from 12 to 15 June 2024.<\/p>\n

The PGA intends to use the opportunity of his visit to further strengthen and foster cooperation between the Republic of South Sudan and the United Nations and to demonstrate his full support and that of the General Assembly for the ongoing efforts to consolidate peace, security, and development in the country, the Horn of Africa, as well as in the entire African region.<\/p>\n

The PGA will particularly express the United Nations\u2019 support for the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) and commend regional efforts in this regard and calling for its full implementation.<\/p>\n

While in Juba, the PGA will pay a courtesy call to H.E. Mr. Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan, and hold separate bilateral meetings with the Honorable Mr. Ramadan Abdalla Goc Ayuel, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, as well as other Cabinet Ministers.<\/p>\n

The PGA will also hold meetings with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan, Mr. Nicholas Haysom, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Humanitarian and Resident Coordinator, Ms. Kiki Gbeho, as well as engage in a roundtable discussion with the ±¬ÁÏÍø Country Team.<\/p>\n

The PGA further plans to engage with other relevant stakeholders in the Republic of South Sudan including children, university students representing the youth, members of civil society organizations and women peacekeepers.<\/p>\n

Throughout his engagements, the PGA expects to learn firsthand about progress and challenges faced by the people of South Sudan, as well as the plight of refugees and displaced persons in the country. In this context, he will visit a camp for Internally Displaced Persons, highlighting a message of international solidarity and support.<\/p>\n

The PGA will also underscore his full support and that of the General Assembly for the work of ±¬ÁÏÍøMISS and the ±¬ÁÏÍø system at large, and appeal to all parties for continued collaboration and to unify for peace and stability in the Republic of South Sudan and in the region.<\/p>\n

The PGA\u2019s delegation includes his Chef de Cabinet, Special Assistant to the Chef de Cabinet & CSOs and Other Major Stakeholders Engagement Liaison, and a Communications Adviser.<\/p>\n

Travel costs for the visit are covered by the Regular Budget.<\/p>\n

±¬ÁÏÍø General Assembly President Dennis Francis to attend the 67th<\/sup> <\/strong>session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs in Vienna, Austria,<\/strong> and the 11th<\/sup> Global Baku Forum in Baku, Azerbaijan<\/strong><\/p>

New York, 12 March 2024 <\/strong><\/em>\u2013 The President of the United Nations General Assembly (PGA), His Excellency Mr. Dennis Francis, will undertake official travel to Vienna, Austria from 13 to 14 March 2024, and to Baku, Azerbaijan from 15 to 16 March 2024.<\/p>

In Vienna<\/strong>, the PGA will attend the opening of the 67th<\/sup> session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND).\u00a0<\/p>

The PGA will highlight the role of the CND as policymaking body of the ±¬ÁÏÍø system with prime responsibility for drug-related matters. He also will underline the need to address the emergence of synthetic drugs, such as fentanyl, and the societal impacts of this ever-growing crisis.<\/p>

While in Vienna, the PGA will hold separate bilateral meetings with H.E. Mr. Alexander Schallenberg, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria; and H.E. Mr. Wolfgang Sobotka, President of the National Council of Austria.<\/p>

Furthermore, he will also hold separate meetings with H.E. Mr. Philbert Abaka Johnson, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Ghana to the ±¬ÁÏÍøOV, Chair of the 67th<\/sup> session of the CND; H.E. Mr. Ivo \u0160ramek, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Czechia to the ±¬ÁÏÍøOV, Chair of the 33rd<\/sup> session of the CCPCJ; Ms. Ghada Waly, Director-General of ±¬ÁÏÍøOV and Executive Director of ±¬ÁÏÍøODC; Mr. Gerd Mueller, Director General of ±¬ÁÏÍøIDO; and Mr. Robert Floyd, Executive Secretary of CTBTO.<\/p>

The PGA will also use the opportunity of his visit to deliver a lecture at the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, the oldest of its kind in the world, to engage academia and civil society on the work of the United Nations and the General Assembly.<\/p>

The PGA\u2019s delegation to Vienna includes his Deputy Chef de Cabinet, a Senior Political Affairs Adviser as well as a Communications Adviser.<\/p>

From Vienna, the President of the General Assembly will travel to Baku<\/strong>, Azerbaijan, to attend the 11th<\/sup> Global Baku Forum from 15 to 16 March 2024.<\/p>

The PGA will deliver a special address on the Forum\u2019s theme \u2018Fixing a Fractured World\u2019<\/em>, emphasizing the need for unity, solidarity, dialogue, and diplomacy to address ongoing geopolitical tensions; and with a view to restore the multilateral system as well as international cooperation.<\/p>

He will also participate in a panel discussion on the objectives that can be set for the 2024 ±¬ÁÏÍø Climate Change Conference (±¬ÁÏÍøFCCC, COP29)<\/strong> to be held in Baku at the end of 2024.<\/p>

During his official visit to Azerbaijan, the PGA will pay a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan; and also hold bilateral meetings with H.E. Mrs. Sahiba Gafarova, Chair of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, H.E. Mr. Jeyhun Bayramov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Mr. Elnur Soltanov, Chief Executive Officer of the COP29 Presidency.<\/p>

The PGA\u2019s delegation to Baku includes his Chef de Cabinet, a Special Adviser on the Summit of the Future, a Deputy Team Leader of the Political Affairs, Peace and Security Team, as well as a Communications Adviser.<\/p>

Travel costs to Vienna and to Baku are covered by the OPGA\u2019s Trust Fund and the Republic of Azerbaijan, respectively.<\/p>
