\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

New York, 20 January 2024<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 The President of the United Nations General Assembly (PGA), H.E. Mr. Dennis Francis, will undertake an official visit to India from 22 to 26 January 2024.<\/p>\n

The PGA will hold bilateral discussions with the leadership and representatives of the Indian Government, and engage with civil society, leading think tanks, embark on field visits and participate in events related to sustainability, multilateralism, accessibility, and digital public infrastructure, among other engagements.<\/p>\n

In New Delhi, the PGA will hold a bilateral meeting with the External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar. The discussions are expected to focus on the PGA\u2019s priorities, ongoing geopolitical tensions, and India\u2019s engagement and contribution to the United Nations, reiteration of invitation to participate in the inaugural Sustainability Week (15-19 April 2024, in New York) and reflections on the Summit of the Future, which will take place in September 2024, in New York.<\/p>\n

The PGA will lay a wreath at Raj Ghat, Mahatma Gandhi\u2019s Memorial and attend public engagements in the India\u2019s capital city, including an address at the Indian Council of World Affairs under the theme of his Presidency: \u201cPeace, Progress, Prosperity, and Sustainability.\u201d<\/p>\n

He will deliver remarks at event on Digital Public Infrastructure highlighting India\u2019s leadership in championing the interests of the Global South and sharing experiences on further efforts to close the digital divide.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the PGA will visit the city of Jaipur, where he is expected to appreciate the work of an NGO specialized at providing affordable and accessible prosthetic limbs. The PGA will also use the opportunity of his visit to meet with key State Government officials.<\/p>\n

In the last part of his official visit, the PGA will travel to Mumbai to participate in a Fireside Chat event with India\u2019s think tank on \u201cNew Orientation for Reformed Multilateralism\u201d.\u00a0 He will also be received at the National Stock Exchange in Mumbai.<\/p>\n

As part of his official travels, the President of the General Assembly will engage with the ±¬ÁÏÍø Country Team led by Mr. Shombi Sharp, the ±¬ÁÏÍø Resident Coordinator in India, to appreciate the work by the ±¬ÁÏÍø system on the ground.<\/p>\n

The PGA will be accompanied by his Chef de Cabinet, his Special Adviser on Gender Equality and Women\u2019s Empowerment, a Sustainable Development Adviser, as well as a Communications Adviser.<\/p>\n

Travel costs for the PGA and his delegation are covered by the Government of India and the OPGA\u2019s Trust Fund.<\/p>\n
