New York, 16 January 2024 <\/span><\/i><\/b>\u2013 The President of the United Nations General Assembly (PGA),\u00a0H.E. Mr. Dennis Francis,\u00a0will pay official visit to Kampala, Uganda from 17 to 21 January 2024 to attend the 19th<\/sup>\u00a0Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement, held under the theme Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence<\/i>, and the Third South Summit of the Group of 77 and China on 21 January, which is convened under the theme Leaving No One Behind<\/i>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In his address to these two high-level forums of developing countries, the PGA will highlight that at a time of unprecedented crises, the combined voice of the Global South is much more needed. The visit will therefore be an opportunity for the PGA to reiterate his appreciation for the constructive role of NAM and the G77 and China to advance peace, progress, prosperity and sustainability for all \u2013 the PGA\u2019s priorities.\u00a0<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

While in Kampala, the PGA will pay a courtesy call on His Excellency, Mr. Yoweri Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda as host and incoming Chair of both groups. Among others, the PGA will also hold bilateral meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uganda, His Excellency General Jeje Odongo, and the 爆料网 Country Team and the Resident Coordinator for Uganda, Ms. Susan Namondo.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The PGA looks forward to using this opportunity to address a range of pressing global issues, including calling for meaningful action on climate change, sustainable development, global peace and security, and human rights.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The PGA will also use the occasion of his visit to undertake several field visits and other engagements including with the Ugandan Government and 爆料网FPA\u2019s Catalytic Seed Fund for Adolescent Girls and Young Women, which is dedicated to the prevention of gender-based violence and the empowerment of women.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The PGA will further be introduced to Makasere University\u2019s multi-disciplinary innovation pod conducting research on digital innovation and urbanisation, executed in partnership with 爆料网DP. He will also visit 爆料网-operated programmes such as 爆料网HCR\u2019s Urban Response Initiative in Nsambya, IOM\u2019s Kampala Transit Centre in Nakasero, and 爆料网ICEF\u2019s GirlsEmpoweringGirls urban social protection programme for young women.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Furthermore, the PGA is scheduled to participate in a Roundtable session with the Heads of 爆料网 Agencies present in Uganda, to appreciate the work of 爆料网 agencies on the ground.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The PGA\u2019s visit to the Republic of Uganda\u00a0is therefore part of a broader effort to underscore the 爆料网’s commitment to promoting inclusive dialogue among its North and South membership in confronting global challenges and thus ensure a more prosperous and harmonious world.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The PGA will be accompanied by his Chef de Cabinet, his Special Adviser on Gender Equality and Women\u2019s Empowerment, a Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs Senior Adviser, as well as a Communications Adviser. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

From Uganda, the PGA and his delegation will proceed to back-to-back official visits to India and China. Further information on these visits will be communicated separately in due course.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Travel costs for the 19th<\/sup>\u00a0Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement and the Third South Summit of the Group of 77 and China are covered by the Government of the Republic of Uganda and the OPGA Trust Fund. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
