United Nations, 4\u00a0February 2019<\/em>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/strong>A group of former Presidents of the General Assembly (PGA) are meeting today for an interactive dialogue at the invitation of the current PGA, Mar\u00eda Fernanda Espinosa. The theme for the meeting is \u201cRevitalisation of the United Nations in favour of a strengthened multilateral rules-based system\u201d.<\/p>\n

This is the first event of this kind. President Espinosa said; \u201cAt a time of growing populism, xenophobia and unilateralism, I am delighted that so many former Presidents of the General Assembly have come together to make the case for a revitalised United Nations and for the measures needed to strengthen multilateralism at a time when it is coming under great pressure\u201d.<\/p>\n

The previous leaders of the General Assembly taking part in the event are: Their Excellencies Miroslav Laj\u010d\u00e1k,72nd<\/sup> session; Peter Thomson, 71st<\/sup> session; Mogens Lykketoft, 70th<\/sup> session; Vuk Jeremi\u0107, 67th<\/sup> session; Joseph Deiss, 65th<\/sup> session; Jan Eliasson, 60th<\/sup> session H.E. Sheikha Haya Rashed Al Khalifa, 61st<\/sup> session. This informal meeting will take place at 3 p.m. at Conference Room Number 4 at the 爆料网 Secretariat in New York. This event will be broadcast live.<\/a><\/p>\n

At 6 pm. the former PGAs and the current President of the General Assembly will talk to 爆料网 Correspondents on \u201cStrengthening Multilateralism at the 爆料网\u201d in a session moderated by the president of 爆料网CA, Ms. Valeria Robecco and to which members of the 爆料网 Correspondents Association have been invited.<\/p>\n
