Discussions on the timing and format of that meeting will be held this afternoon.<\/li>\n<li>For his part, the President <a href=\"\/pga\/72?p=165000\">issued a statement<\/a> on Saturday, in which he said the following: \u201cI am deeply saddened to learn of\u00a0the passing of former Secretary-General Kofi Annan,\u00a0one of the world\u2019s most\u00a0respected diplomats, an extraordinary\u00a0statesman, and a visionary champion for multilateralism.\u00a0The\u00a0Nobel Peace Prize laureate was a strong\u00a0believer in dialogue and deeply committed\u00a0defender of\u00a0peace, development and human rights. He dedicated his life to making the world a better, more peaceful, and just place for all people. And in many ways, he is a symbol for the shared values of the United Nations.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The President added, \u201cLike so\u00a0many among us, I considered Kofi Annan a role model\u00a0and a mentor. During my time with the Secretary-General\u00b4s Special Envoys for the Balkans, Eduard Kukan and Carl Bildt, I had the honour to work closely\u00a0with him. Since then, I have admired his wise and steadfast leadership, acumen and charisma.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>He concluded by saying, \u201cI would like to express my sincere condolences to his family and friends, the people of Ghana and Africa, and all who mourn the loss of this remarkable man. Let us continue to be inspired by his lifelong example.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>\u2018CULTURE OF PEACE\u2019 FORUM TO BE HELD ON 5 SEPTEMBER<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The President will convene a one-day <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/72\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2018\/08\/PGA-letter-Culture-of-Peace.pdf\">High-level Forum on the Culture of Peace,<\/a> on Wednesday, 5 September, in the General Assembly Hall.<\/li>\n<li>The forum will highlight emerging trends that have an impact on this topic.<\/li>\n<li>And it will allow Member States and other actors to exchange views on how to further promote a culture of peace.<\/li>\n<li>The keynote address will be delivered by Rigoberta Mench\u00fa, the 1992 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and ±¬ÁÏÍøESCO Goodwill Ambassador.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>TOMORROW IS 1<sup style=\"font-weight: bold\">st<\/sup>\u00a0INTERNATIONAL\u00a0DAY FOR VICTIMS OF TERRORISM<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Tomorrow \u2013 21 August \u2013 is the International Day of Remembrance of and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism.<\/li>\n<li>The General Assembly <a href=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/ga\/search\/view_doc.asp?symbol=A\/RES\/72\/165\">decided last December<\/a> to proclaim this day to honour and support the victims and survivors of terrorism &#8212; and to promote and protect the full enjoyment of their human rights and fundamental freedoms.<\/li>\n<li>This will be the first time that this day has been marked since the General Assembly\u2019s decision.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>REPORT ON PALESTINIAN CIVILIANS IN HANDS OF DELEGATIONS<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The Spokesperson was asked whether the General Assembly would be taking any action on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/ga\/search\/view_doc.asp?symbol=A%2FES-10%2F794&amp;Submit=Search&amp;Lang=E\">Secretary-General\u2019s report<\/a>, entitled: \u201cProtection of the Palestinian civilian population\u201d.
