We are hearing more and more calls for exclusion\u2026We are seeing hatred crowd out humanity. And that is why we need to support this International Day\u2026 now more than ever.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>PRESIDENT TO OPEN STRATEGIC FORUM IN SLOVAKIA<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The President is currently in Slovakia.<\/li>\n<li>Tomorrow he will open and participate in the GLOBSEC 2018 Bratislava Forum, a prominent strategic gathering that brings together international Government officials, academics and civil society, including the private sector.<\/li>\n<li>He will also hold bilateral meetings with a wide range of interlocutors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>MEMBER STATES DISCUSS STRENGTHENING ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL CO±¬ÁÏÍøCIL<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The Permanent Representatives of Iceland and Qatar, who are the co-facilitators for strengthening the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), are holding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/72\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2018\/05\/PGA-letter-ECOSOC-review-1.pdf\">informal consultations<\/a> today at 3:00 p.m. in the ECOSOC Chamber.<\/li>\n<li>This process is an opportunity for Member States to strengthen ECOSOC\u2019s role in supporting the implementation of the 2030 Agenda &#8212; and to enhance the Council\u2019s ability to help integrate the three dimensions of sustainable development.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>ASSEMBLY TO HEAR FROM SECRETARY-GENERAL ON MANAGEMENT REFORM<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The Spokesperson was asked for background information on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/72\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2018\/05\/SG-to-PGA-re-Reform-Briefing-14May18.pdf\">forthcoming briefing by the Secretary-General<\/a> to the General Assembly on management reform.<\/li>\n<li>The Spokesperson later informed the journalist that the President of the General Assembly would convene an informal meeting of the plenary for a briefing on management reform on 22 May at the request of the Secretary-General.<\/li>\n<li>The briefing was in line with the Secretary-General\u2019s commitment to engage with Member States on his reform initiatives, and the President\u2019s commitment to facilitate such engagement for transparency and inclusivity.<\/li>\n<li>The Spokesperson added that the <a href=\"https:\/\/undocs.org\/A\/72\/492\/Add.2\">report of the Secretary-General<\/a> &#8212; entitled \u201cShifting the management paradigm in the United Nations: implementing a new management architecture for improved effectiveness and strengthened accountability\u201d &#8212; would be considered by the Fifth Committee during its second resumed session, as it was the Main Committee of the General Assembly responsible for administrative and budgetary matters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_3&#8243;][et_pb_code admin_label=&#8221;BrightCove Video ShortCode&#8221;
