Peter Thomson wrote a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/71\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2015\/08\/Letter-to-Heads-of-State-and-Government-from-±¬ÁÏÍø-PGA-Educating-Youth-about-SDGs-Nov-2016-EN.pdf\">letter<\/a> to 193 Heads of State and Government to emphasize the importance of teaching children and young people about the SDGs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cYouth will be the inheritors of the success or failure of the Sustainable Development Goals,\u201d he wrote in his letter to the leaders of all ±¬ÁÏÍø member states.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Drawing their attention to free tools and resources such as the <a href=\"http:\/\/worldslargestlesson.globalgoals.org\/\">World\u2019s Largest Lesson<\/a> and other materials developed by ±¬ÁÏÍøICEF, ±¬ÁÏÍøESCO, Global Partnership on Education and Project Everyone, the President requested that national efforts are made to educate young people on the vital importance of the SDGs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cIf every school curriculum in the world incorporates the Sustainable Development Goals, every school teaches them, and every young person on the planet is made aware of them as rights and responsibilities, the world will stand a very good chance of attaining the Goals by 2030.\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">By teaching the SDGs, progress is made towards the implementation of SDG 4.7 which states: \u201cBy 2030, ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including, among others, through education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship and appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture\u2019s contribution to sustainable development.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The Office was represented by Special Advisor Dessima Williams and the Education Team, Mohammed Al-Buainain and Naomi Parekh.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">To learn more about the Sustainable Development Goals, visit <a href=\"https:\/\/sustainabledevelopment.un.org\/\">https:\/\/sustainabledevelopment.un.org\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Hashtags:<\/strong> #TeachSDGs # DwightSchool #SDG4 #GlobalGoals<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the Office of the President of the General Assembly &#8212; Engaging young minds at the Dwight School in New York on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development ±¬ÁÏÍøITED NATIONS, [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":202,"featured_media":91784,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":"","_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"categories":[165],"tags":[3120,5207,441,3180,4215,5204],"class_list":["post-91781","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news-stories","tag-dessima-williams","tag-dwight-school","tag-education","tag-latest-news","tag-sdg4","tag-teaching-sdgs"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.3 -
