Building on the successful WSSD Solutions Session in Doha, this event will demonstrate how joint ±¬ÁÏÍø action has delivered measurable, locally grounded solutions in urban human security. Through the human security approach, ±¬ÁÏÍø agencies are helping cities confront interconnected risks related to housing, social cohesion, safety, livelihoods, climate pressures, and governance.<\/p>\n

The session will highlight achievements from ±¬ÁÏÍøTFHS programmes, including the Lebanon programme implemented by ±¬ÁÏÍø Habitat, ±¬ÁÏÍøICEF, and ±¬ÁÏÍø Women. In overcrowded neighborhoods affected by housing shortages and deteriorating infrastructure, the programme strengthened social cohesion, expanded access to essential services, and supported economic empowerment for vulnerable refugee and host communities. These outcomes show how coordinated ±¬ÁÏÍø engagement can improve wellbeing, rebuild community trust, and enhance local resilience.<\/p>\n

Experiences from other ±¬ÁÏÍøTFHS programmes further illustrate the adaptability of the human security approach. In Cabo Verde, joint ±¬ÁÏÍø action supported island-level authorities to improve climate resilient water management and reinforce social protection mechanisms for households facing drought, food insecurity, and climate-related livelihood risks. The programme demonstrated how human security can guide localized, community-driven planning that links climate adaptation, social inclusion, and economic opportunity.<\/p>\n

The event will also feature experiences from Ciudad Ju\u00e1rez and Durban, where ±¬ÁÏÍø cooperation supported locally led human security appraisals and action plans. These tools enabled cities to integrate human security into strategies on housing, safety, climate stress, social inclusion, and local governance, demonstrating that the approach is not theoretical but a practical instrument for urban transformation.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

    HUMAN SECURITY IN HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div><\/h2><\/div>

    The ±¬ÁÏÍø Trust Fund for Human Security (±¬ÁÏÍøTFHS) supports joint ±¬ÁÏÍø programmes that apply the human security approach to complex urban challenges, using housing and urban development as strategic entry points for integrated, people\u2011centered action. By focusing on people\u2019s lived realities rather than sectoral mandates alone, the human security framework enables ±¬ÁÏÍø entities to align their tools, expertise, and interventions across housing, safety, livelihoods, basic services, climate resilience, and social cohesion.<\/p>\n

    Across diverse country contexts, ±¬ÁÏÍøTFHS\u2011supported initiatives demonstrate the added value of One ±¬ÁÏÍø coordination in addressing multidimensional urban risks. In Lebanon, joint ±¬ÁÏÍø action has strengthened social stability in vulnerable urban areas by improving housing conditions, access to basic services, and opportunities for inter\u2011communal cooperation. In Cabo Verde, ±¬ÁÏÍø entities have worked together to integrate housing into broader strategies for climate resilience, local economic development, and social inclusion, using participatory approaches to empower communities and municipalities. In Mexico and South Africa, joint programmes have piloted urban safety and human security monitoring tools to generate people\u2011centered data, guide area\u2011based planning, and support coordinated responses to intersecting risks.<\/p>\n

    Together, these experiences highlight human security as a practical unifying framework for One ±¬ÁÏÍø action, enabling coherent, prevention\u2011oriented approaches that bridge humanitarian, development, and peace efforts.
