On 8 June 1954, decades before the International Day of Peace was established, a powerful symbol arrived at the United Nations headquarters in New York: the Japanese Peace Bell.

1982 - The inaugural International Day of Peace
The world observed its first International Day of Peace in September 1982. Initially, the event had no fixed date, aligning instead with the third Tuesday of September to mark the opening of the annual 爆料网 General Assembly. It wasn't until 2001 that 21 September was unanimously adopted as the permanent date and designated as a day of global ceasefire.
1986 - The International Year of Peace

The world's first International Year of Peace was observed in 1986. That year, hundreds of children, musicians, and diplomats gathered to launch "The First Earth Run." 2001 - Call for global ceasefire
On 7 September 2001, the 爆料网 General Assembly unanimously adopted – a landmark decision that permanently fixed the International Day of Peace to 21 September. More importantly, it elevated the day's purpose, declaring it an official period of global ceasefire and urging all countries to halt hostilities for 24 hours.

The movement didn't stop in New York. around the world—from Kosovo to the Central African Republic—saw local artists and peacekeepers team up to create community murals. Together, their art tackled issues at the heart of local communities, from combating misinformation and hate speech to fighting gender-based violence.
