Objectives

The project aims to establish a common understanding of the requirements for deploying life-saving capabilities across ±¬ÁÏÍø field missions, including options to ensure a reliable blood supply. Ultimately, it seeks to improve peacekeeper survival rates and maximize resource utilization in the field. The initiative forms part of a broader effort to optimize and standardize medical capabilities, including blood provision, in ±¬ÁÏÍø operations, enhancing the quality of medical support delivered during emergencies.

Components

The project supports the standardization of medical modules by establishing best practices for their composition and developing a common methodology to estimate potential blood requirements for Damage Control Surgery (DCS) operations. These efforts aim to enhance interoperability among stakeholders and systems while building capacity. The project also includes mapping blood supply challenges in ±¬ÁÏÍø field operations and developing recommendations for alternative or bridging solutions to ensure blood availability.

Main achievements

Project activities are planned to start once the project manager is onboard. In the meantime, preliminary data collection on ±¬ÁÏÍø blood delivery challenges has begun, pending validation by the project manager.

Impact

The project lays the groundwork for a sustained global effort to improve the health and safety of ±¬ÁÏÍø personnel operating in conflict zones. By leveraging partnerships, it supports enhanced interoperability and enables the scaling up of efforts to address medical emergencies in humanitarian operations worldwide.
