±¬ÁÏÍø annually observes (8¨C9 May) as a time of remembrance and reconciliation to pay tribute to World War II victims . The General Assembly proclaimed those dates in 2004 by resolution 59/26?. The Assembly noted?that WWII was an historic event that established the conditions for creating the ±¬ÁÏÍø, which was designed, as stated in the opening paragraph of the Charter of the United Nations, ¡to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind¡.
